UTL MD pays courtesy visit to the Queen of Buganda

The Queen of Buganda Her Highness Sylvia Nagginda with the Managing Director of Uganda Telecom Mr. David Holliday, the Acting Chief Operations Officer Mr. Peter Kakaire and the Public Relations Manager Uganda Telecom Jamal Sultan during a courtesy visit Mr. David Holliday paid to Her Highness to discuss the possibilities of Uganda Telecom supporting the different development programs under the Nnabagereka Development Foundation

Soon after the discussions Mr. Holliday took the opportunity to brief Her Highness on the ongoing National UCC SIM registration exercise. The Queen was pleased to have her Uganda Telecom line registered and also advised Uganda Telecom to ensure that they go out of their way to reach out to the people and sensitize them on the purpose of SIM registration.

The registration of SIM cards countrywide commenced on March 1 2012, spearheaded by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).The registration follows the enactment of the Interception of Communication Act which provides for the registration of existing SIM cards.According to UCC, all new and existing mobile phone numbers will have to be registered to be activated on a mobile network in Uganda.

UCC is the regulatory body of the communications sector in Uganda.

 “The cutoff date or deadline for SIM card registration for existing mobile subscribers is 28th February 2013,” Failure to register one’s SIM card will lead to automatic disconnection.
