What is UTL M-Sente?
UTL M-Sente is a mobile wallet for a subscriber that offers a fast, secure and painless method for money transfer and bill payment. The Service is USSD based and the code for UTL M-Sente users is *500#. This code will enable you access the M-Sente menu on your mobile phone.

What does the product allow you to do?
UTL M-Sente allows users to do the following directly over their mobile phone:

  • Deposit funds
  • Transfer funds
  • Withdraw funds
  • Buy airtime and
  • Pay bills directly

Where can it be accessed?
M sente is accessible at the following locations countrywide.

  1. All UTL service centers.
  2. All partner locations. ( Post Bank, Posta Uganda, Pride Micro Finance, Uganda Finance Trust).
  3. Mass market Outlets (With – M sente Available Here Signage)

What does a subscriber need?
Anyone can become a UTL M-Sente subscriber. To register, you need the following:

  • A UTL Sim card
  • Original identification  – including Driver’s License, Passport, Military ID, Company ID, Voter’s card or LC Certificate

How does registration work?
Register at any UTL M-Sente agent or service center:-

  • Bring your phone with UTL enabled sim card and identification.
  • You will fill out a customer registration form and the agent will register you in the system in real time. In most cases, the agent will give you a UTL M-Sente card linked to your account.
  • You will be asked to set your secret pin on your own phone. You must always remember this pin in order to undertake M-Sente transactions.
  • The whole process will take less than 5 minutes and you can instantly transact afterward. Your registering agent will be able to provide you an introduction and any information you need about the service.
  • Registration is completely free of charge

How do I deposit funds into my account?
Once registered, you can deposit funds into your account with any UTL M-Sente agent or service center. After handing in cash to the agent and communicating your phone number, the agent will deposit electronic value directly into your account and you will receive SMS verification. Your mobile number is your account number

How do I transfer money?
To send money to registered UTL Mobile Subscribers, simply transfer funds directly from your mobile phone;

  • Using your USSD (*500#) menu, select “Transfer.”
  • You will be asked for the phone number of the recipient and the amount you wish to transfer.
  • You will then need to enter your secret PIN
  • Once completed, you and the recipient will be sent an SMS notifying you of the status of the transaction.

If transferring to a non-registered recipient, same process as above will apply; however, the unregistered recipient will be sent a “secret code” by SMS. They will use this secret code to withdraw the funds at any UTL M-Sente agent.
Each transfer will incur a small transaction fee.

How do I withdraw money from my account? [Registered Subscriber]
To withdraw funds from your account, visit any UTL M-Sente agent or service center.

  • You will select the “withdraw” option from your USSD menu
  • Type in the agent’s phone number and the amount to withdraw
  • You and the agent will receive an SMS confirmation on a successful transaction
  • Agent will hand you cash in exchange

Withdrawing funds will incur a small fee, which will be deducted from the amount of the withdrawal.
If you are NOT a registered subscriber:

  • You receive an SMS with a secret pin code once money has been sent to you
  •  Visit your nearest UTL M-Sente agent or service center
  •  Submit your secret code
  •  Agent will give you cash equal to the amount in your confirmation SMS

If you are not a registered subscriber, the withdrawal fee was already paid by the sender and you will not be charged a fee.

 How do I buy Airtime from my UTL M-Sente account?
The purchase happens on your phone and does not require a scratch card or visit to a retailer.

  • Access your USSD menu by dialing *500#
  • Select “buy airtime”
  • You can type any amount greater than Ushs 250
  • The funds will be deducted directly from your UTL M-Sente account.

Soon you will be able to pay your bills directly from your phone and pay for goods and services from your account using your UTL M-Sente card.
