Decorated youthful golfer Vincent 'Araali' Byamukama took a two-shot lead in the 68th edition of the utl sponsored Uganda Open at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Kitante course yesterday.
 
Byamukama, the 2007 utl/Uspa Golfer of the Year, fired three birdies on holes 1,4, 10 but bogeys on 2, 8 and 9 meant that he settled for a course leveling round of 72.

"My chipping, driving and approach shots were nice but the putting cost me a better return. I intend to play my handicap throughout and God willing I will win," said the 21-year old Byamukama who is chasing his first title.
 
Tanzania players, tutored by reputable golf instructor Charles Farar, proved that they weren't mere aimless journeymen with three of their players - Yasin Saleh (74), Hassan Kadio (74) and Dilunga Salum (75) making it into the Top 6.

In the Shs10m professionals' category, defending champion Dismas Indiza showed no signs of letting go of his gong with a superb round of five under-par 67 to take a joint lead together with fellow Kenyan Kopan Timbe.
