Uganda telecom donated an assortment of items to Health Alert in Gulu on 16th August 2006. The items donated that were worth six million shillings included mattresses, water, saucepans, soap, detergent, books, pencils, geometry sets, basins, toothpaste and many more. The donation is in line with the uganda telecom’s corporate social responsibility goals where uganda telecom aims to improve the living conditions of the communities in which they live and operate.
While handing over the items to Florence Ocitti, a representative from Health Alert Uganda, Ruth Kirinda, the utl Public Relations Manager said “uganda telecom is glad to come and assist you in your work here. We have donated some items to you but we promise to be back in the near future with more things and to see how the children are getting on. We are committed to improving the condition of the communities where we live and this small gesture is only the beginning of a life changing goal we have for northern Uganda.”
A visibly excited Florence Ocitti was grateful to uganda telecom for the donation that was very much needed and she appealed to other corporations to come together and assist not only Health Alert but all NGOs in the district. She remarked that uganda telecom was one of the first companies to come to their help in recent months.
Health Alert Uganda looks after over 490 children who are all under the age of 15 and who have all been either infected or affected by HIV. There is not enough space to accommodate all the children at the NGO premises so children travel long distances to come to the headquarters which are in Pecce.
